Mood and Energy

Certain alterations in mood form a class of conditions known as mood disorders.

Mood disorders are among the most common disorders.

The presence of persistently altered moods can lead to a significant disruption in a person’s life, making adaptation more difficult and affecting aspects such as self-esteem. This impacts not only the emotional sphere but also cognition and even the perception of the surrounding environment. It also has repercussions across all areas of life, altering the way individuals relate to their environment and to other people.

According to some psychologists, mood is a relationship between two variables: energy and tension. According to this theory, mood fluctuates between an energetic state (from more tired to more active) and a state related to the level of nervousness (from calmer to more tense), with the best state considered to be calm–energetic and the worst state tense–tired.

We are dealing with one of the most prevalent groups of disorders worldwide, together with anxiety disorders, with a high percentage of the population experiencing some form of this type of condition.

It should also be noted that the other group of disorders we have just mentioned, anxiety disorders, are closely linked to these, and it is common for them to occur together or for the difficulties caused by one to eventually lead to the other.
